Week 5 Update

(5 Black Boys, 1 Black Girl, 3 Red Girls) - Puppy enquiry form

Its been a bit of a rough week. We have all been very sick here - husband, me, kids - and pretty much everyone who has visited us. So we have been in a bit of a quarantine. Its not so bad looking after myself and the kids when we are sick, but add 9 puppies, a moody bitch, and worst of all - a sick husband, who like most men, needs to be doted on hand and foot - and you can understand the week I've had.

The puppies are almost fully weaned at the moment, although Jazzy still drops in once or twice a day to give the last of her milk. Although I think that will finish too this week.

I think I've had enough

Puppies are socializing really well - not only with each other, but with us as well. I love calling to them in the morning, they all come running, and just clamber all over me. Jazzy puts them in their place when they get a little too out of control - and she really seems to have a go at Tilly (Little black girl - Doberoo Waltzing Matilda), who is probably the most dominant of them all. Whatever Jazz is doing, it seems to be working. I noticed today that Tilly seemed a bit more subdued than she normally is.

Connor working on socializing the pups

Because we have been so sick this week, we haven't had our evaluation done this week, but we will be doing that this Friday. Anyway, I have done the write up below on each pup. There is not so much difference in the weights anymore, as they are all coming in around 7 pounds. We have no overly shy ones, and the most dominant is being disciplined by mum.

They are currently being socialized with kids, and being exposed to a 8 month old, 14 month old, 2 year old and 3 1/2 year old. The biggest learning curve I think for them is understanding the 14 month old (although he is in training too - learning not to grab). The pups have had to learn that there is no munching on kiddys fingers / legs / clothing etc, some have picked it up easier than others. The other thing we are really trying to get implanted as well, is quiet time at night. We usually bring up 2 pups every night into our family area, and have them rest quietly with us.

Photo Name Nickname Notes
Doberoo Memory to Jack thinking of changing him to "Outback Jack" Jack Jack has become our biggest boy. He's one of the most playful with the kids, and incredibly inquisitive. Bit of a gentleman when it comes to doing his business. He knows what newspaper is for.
Doberoo What a Scortcher Scortcher She's become a bit quieter over the last week. One of the first to run to me in the morning, and seems to only like playing with the other red girls???
Doberoo Lucky Country Lucky (mainly because it would be rude if we shortened country) He is going to be so hard to let go. I really have a soft spot for him. Although he really holds his own when he plays with his littermates, when it comes to us, he seeks us out, and constantly wants cuddles. He really enjoys being handled, and seems to pick up on the different ages of the kids.
Doberoo Sunburnt Country Sunny She is now the quietest of the girls. She holds back from the rest a bit, and does her own thing, but when you sit down with the pups, she wont leave you alone. I think she is a bit more human orientated than the rest.
Doberoo No Worries No Worries Isn't he just beautiful. He is such a little baby when he sleeps, still keeps his tongue out, sucking on air. Out cruisey little boy.
Doberoo Down Under Dacks This guy is just mischief - will always find the space in between newspaper when he does his business, and he forever underfoot. Loves shoelaces at the moment.
Doberoo Our Little Vegemite Mite Hubby thinks that he is a future champ. He really carries himself well, never gets in trouble with mum, and is so adorable with my son. Very smart when it comes to new toys, he really investigates anything new, like he is trying to figure out how things work.
Doberoo Bundy Rum Bundy Our biggest baby, and first in line for food, toys, hugs - you name it. Shes a bit messy, and not incredibly ladylike. I think she will probably have to do agility or schutzhund work to get her to her full potential.
Doberoo Waltzing Matilda Tilly Loves people, but fights with her mum. Tilly is probably the most dominant at the moment, so Jazz has had to discipline her a bit. It seems to be working. And will be interesting to see how she goes over the next few weeks. When it comes to people though, shes very docile. She is actually snuggled up against me as I'm updating this site.

Puppies will get their first evaluation next week...
